My husband had never been really I'll until, we had to down size due to the bedroom tax, so just a few months after we moved he had to have open heart surgery.
It really knocked him (us) for six, but that was over four years ago now and he is still very weak and thin.
We both have health problems but I cannot get him to go to the doctors.
He has never forgiven the fact, when he watched his mum had a heart attack and rapidly went down hill then pass away, so he has no faith in doctors, which leaves me in a state of forever worrying about him.
Has anyone else ever been in the same situation, or has anybody got any idea as to what I can do?

I thought all GPs had to see patients at least every 12 months for a medication review? Doesn't he have annual blood tests? Has he ever been to the nurse for Blood Pressure check?
Is your husband willing to have you with him for GP appointment (if he does eventually get there)?
Are you both with the same GP practice?
You could arrange to see your GP (on behalf of yourself) to talk through your concerns ??

Does he exercise or is he too weak? Does he eat well?
Do you manage to get out together to somewhere interesting (for distraction ) at least once a week or fortnight?
I understand how difficult it is. It's so easy to loose peace. Prayer helps me. Things are simpler when I draw strength from the Lord.
As previously mentioned your husband having had a bypass should be having regular checks of BP and cholesterol as a minimum.
I do not know how long ago his mother died but the thing to remember is that diagnosis and treatment move forward over the years. The male line of the family have a horrendous history of CVD. There was next to nothing available when my grandfather died and bypasses were not that common when my father died (1980). He needs to help himself and go to the GP. Having heart disease does not preclude other illnesses - for instance he may have simple anaemia (easily treated) but if he does not see a doctor he will never know
