Calling ladies below 50 with mechanical heart valves! How do you cope with heavy periods and deal with contraception on lifelong Warfarin?

Calling all the ladies below 50 with mechanical heart valves! How do you cope with heavy periods, is there anything that can alleviate this problem? Is there safe contraception that can avoid the nightmare of pregnancy on Warfarin? Thanks so much, very worried about this! I have not yet made the decision to have a mechanical valve, but I am being strongly encouraged to do so due to the increased risks of a second operation if I have a tissue valve (I am 40 and have not yet had children, also upset that I will miss out on the chance of having a family).

I have no personal knowledge as I didn't choose mechanical, but I know women have sometimes had an endometrial ablation to reduce heavy periods on warfarin.

(I've also sent you a private message)

Thanks so much for replying :) The ablation doesn't sound fun , but at least there are some options. I hope there are some women my age on Healthunlocked who are in a similar position to me that I can talk to, it feels like my case is quite rare!
