Hi winnie the only treatment I am getting is taking ramipril I have seen my cardiologist and he told me after the results of my mri scan that I have avery mild variant he said the septum measures 1.3 cm which is suggestive of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and he not going fit me with an icd and discharged me he also said it wont kill me it is more likely it will die with me and said he 's always there if I need to talk and he would only want to see me if it got worse.

Hello my husband was diagnosed 4 years ago, age 63 after occasional chest pains for a few years (possibly 2ce a year?) One look at his ecg and he was admitted... they didn't know his abnormal pattern was actually HIS 'normal' one! Diagnosis took 3-4 days, then released. He continued occasional chest pain episodes til this Feb when more marked and/or longer periods occurred... eventually went to hospital by emergency ambulance as (not too severe) chest pain hadn't subsided after several hours (he woke with it about 6 or 7 am). He also has some nasty chest infections around that time, untreated except cough medicines. We asked for a sublingual spray for the now more common chest pain occurrences and seemed to help. However after a new blood pressure medication (may not be relevant) a few months later, he then had episodes of sudden acute breathlessness for no reason, ie had to stop and sit to recover. Seemed to also be low BP at that time. Then mid July he felt dizzy walking to shop for milk for a cuppa, held on to the wall there then came around with bump on head due to loss of consciousness. GP suggested dehydration… it was during that really hot heatwave. About a month later he was dizzy in Asdas, stopped walking/talking, help on trolley and it passed. However Monday he came off his pushbike and got a head injury, its presumed to be a dizziness-faint or blackout. He's now in Cardiology ward for head injury observation plus investigation further into heart complaint. Hope that's useful, at least you can take dizziness seriously rather than GP saying its the heat!!!

I was diagnosed when I was 74 earlier this year. I have no symptoms it was picked up on a scan when I asked to have one as cricketing friends of mine have heart problems. It is genetic/hereditary but only picked up recently. My elder brother died of a heart attack when he was 62 over 16 years ago but he had been getting pains in the heart and ignored them.
