So I’ve been taking bisoprolol 5mg for over 2 years now, and wow, I’m 25 and get breathless walking up hills, stairs etc, I’ve always been a fast walker, but ever since my life has declined, can’t run, (someonhiw can manage the stress test) but can’t run for buses can’t walk fast, if I walk at a slower steady pace I’m fine, all be it depending on how far/long I walk for.

It’s not to the point where I need to stand still I battle through it but can feel my heart taking larger extra beats.

I’ve been told before I have superventricular tach.

I also have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy although I’ve been told it’s a mild case.

The last two years I’ve also suffered from a weird sensation. From around my nipple round into my side, just under my armpit I get this weird burny, knowing feeling when I’m getting breathless. I had a lung X-ray last year at the start, and there was nothing their so I basically got told it’s part of the condition get used to it, what I’ve noticed recently it seems to be worse when I have stomach acid, or after eating,

Anyone else suffer? At 25 I cant be assed with this, but when I Stopped taking them, my heart was going crazy and ended up in hospital with a resting rate of 181bpm!!

Hiya, I too have hcm - i have been living with it now for nearly 30years. I too take bisop 10mg a day also have my 3rd icd implant. I am mid 40's and lead a very normal life.

I was diagnosed at 17.

Firstly bisop is designed to slow you down - takes stress off heart. Basically it means you can't do full on speed of life even if you want to cos the drugs slow you some how. They are a good safety net drug. Works well just slows you down a tad.

Secondly more importantly its alot for your head to deal with. Took me ages to adjust and learn new limits. All I can say I docs know their stuff and are giving you the safe guard to carry on with a life. Goto the hcm support groups on net. Talk about you and how you are feeling. It does help out. There are many ways to combat svt and the chest thumping dance beat that occurs. Most of the chest pains are muscular from either lungs or stomach and being more aware of chest thumping - it's your brain being more aware and making you think something is going on. I still am aware of everything am I have learnt what is problem thump and what is normal. I used to get acid alot, I lost weight and it stopped. The cardiologists are good at explaining - you just have to open up to them

Mainly give your head time to adjust this is where alot of fear comes from. Find out what you can really do too. Not saying push yourself but slowly try to increase daily activity if unsure about limits talk to doc -. My hcm symptoms will be different to yours, your limits you have to find out yourself - there always is paranoia about it. Just takes time to get used to.

I have just started jogging recently , I mountain bike loads, I have eaten a bad diet and now it's healthy(midlife crisis). Hcm isn't as bad to live with so long as it's managed properly and regularly.

Hope this is useful - you will find a level of life you can get on with
