Hi, quick question, I have an enlarged left ventricle discovered through an echo and they have advised me it is "40" when questioned they said that is the echo - can someone explain it in simple terms for me and what it means, also what is the healthy equivalent?
thanks in advance

I’m guessing here but I think the 40 relates to your ejection fraction - it’s actually a percentage value. So the amount of blood being ejected from your heart on each beat is 40% of the volume. That sounds alarming but a good value would be around 55% (it’s never 100%) so it’s low but it’s not as bad it might at first appear. Even if I’m barking up the wrong tree with my guess, whatever it turns out to be your cardiologist should have explained it to you!
stevejb1810 aw thanks very much, it makes sense now. my cardiologist probably did but lots to take in at that time as I felt like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off and my head was not in the right place at the time
