Hi Frank,

I hope you're keeping well!

Most people who take dual antiplatelet medication often take a statin. Pravastatin is one of the commonly prescribed ones and the dose of 10mg is usual in the first instance.

It is commonly used if someone has had a heart attack or stent procedure. They work very well in combination as the dual antiplatelets reduce the risk of clots forming within the coronary artery walls( and protect the stent) and the statin protects the insides of the artery walls if there is plaque. If a piece of plaque breaks away, the body's natural response is to react to the 'injury' by releasing platelets which form the clot that we don't want! It also helps to control your blood cholesterol levels so is multipurpose.

Even if your cholesterol levels are within normal healthy limits,if you have a history of coronary heart disease, they both help to reduce the risk of heart attack,so if you are able to tolerate them they are doing you some good!

I hope I've helped!

Take care,

Philippa
