Hi just results from my echo,it says I have regurgitation of my mitral and aortic valves. I don't need any treatment, just to keep my BP low, I am taking Ramipril,Lercandidipine, indapamine and atorvastatin. I have been treated for high blood pressure for many years, just wondered if anyone had any information and advice.

Keep taking the meds, keep active, maintain a healthy body weight, maintain a healthy diet, make sure you keep up with your cardiology appointments (I’m guessing they will be annual at this stage). Essentially, look after yourself! But continue to have a life, don’t become a slave to it.

Thank you for your reply, I have been discharged from cardiology. I was discharged before I had the echo, they said they would inform me if they needed to see me again. I’ve not heard anything so I assume they don’t want to see me again, it was my GP who gave me the results. Do you think I should ask my GP about annual echos, this is all new to me so don’t no what to do. He said also there was some thickening of the left ventricle. He said this can happen if you have high blood pressure, thanks

This may talk more to my expectation rather than any sort of reality, but I would have thought that if you have been diagnosed with a regurgitation issue, it would at least be monitored, so yes, I'd take that up with your GP. I would expect them to be doing a medication review annually at least so that might be the time to pose the questions. Not any sort of expert on wall thickening, but as I understand it, its because you heart has had to work harder because of you high BP. Too much thickening isn't good but beyond that, I cant really offer anything very much.

Thank you, I’m seeing my GP in 4wks so will mention about having a annual review. I’m trying not to worry too much, thanks again

I have some moderate regurgitation of both these valves which has got slightly worse over the last four years. They are monitored with an annual echocardiogram, which is reviewed amongst my other heart issues, at a Cons Appt, once a year.

I have heard it’s handled differently in different geographic areas.

Does anybody know what the nice guidelines are for people with leaky heart valves. I thought the care would be the same in each area.

Hi, I also have the same 2 leaky valves, recently diagnosed on Echo, & taking ramipril & atorvastatin since October. My cardiologist has asked for me to have another Echo in a year's time. He made no other suggestion re the valves or my other heart problems apart from taking nitrate ACE inhibitor for my angina. Best of luck.
