ECG results

I suffer from a number of medical conditions including diabetes. I have also been getting an irregular heartbeat plus palpitations and ectopic beats. Both my latest ECGs (a year apart) show a lobg QT interval, the highest at 486. Has anyone been told they have a long QT interval, and if so has any treatment been advised?

I also have long QT over 512 amongst other heart problems. I am due to have a defibrillator and pacemaker fitted. It was thought to be due to some medication I was on which can cause this and return to normal when stopped. However mine did not return to normal hence the intervention. Please don't worry thinking that this will happen to you as there are lots they can do to reduce the length. I'm not sure your length would necessarily result in surgery.

Hi Becky

Thank you for your response - that is reassuring.

Sue

Hi there,

I have attached a link to more information on LQTS :-

bhf.org.uk/heart-health/con...

If you have had this diagnosed you need to find our whether it is due to medications or if it is potentially inherited.

I would suggest you give our helpline a call on 0300 330 3311 to chat a bit more to one of our nurses.

I hope this has been of some help,

Chris

Hi Chris, thank you for your response. The first ECG in 2016 showed a borderline LQTI at 468. It was thought to be due to a medication I was taking so that was changed. However the latest ECG shows the situation has worsened. I am particularly worried as my brother passed away at 59 following a sudden cardiac arrest. No cause could be found and we were told it was likely due to ventricular arrhythmia. No PM was done as his cause of death was listed as hypoxic brain damage (he'd been resuscitated several times and was on life support for some time). I'm still awaiting results of 72hr continuous ECG - my echo was ok.
