Hello all, bit of a long story! My husband had a pacemaker fitted beginning of November, had to have the procedure twice as one of the leads had become detached. As a result the consultant stopped his diuretics for a few days because of possible upset to his kidneys. As a result he ended up with fluid overload which we were getting on top of with use of bumetanide and Bendroflumethiazide. He then ended up in hospital suffering from sepsis, came home 10 days later with a new drug regime and has ended up in hospital again because his kidneys were not functioning as well and ended up with another fluid overload. The consultant has had him on a furosemide infusion which has worked, but took him off that yesterday to introduce bumetanide and so far he has gained 2kg. Anyone else had similar problems?

Yes I did post bypass. Exactly, the same treatment, I was given the infusion everyday until my weight dropped back to what I weighed pre op. So I stayed in hospital, whenI was discharged I stayed on diuretics for 3 months.

Thanks Twobells, he has been on diuretics for ages, in fact years so we were surprised with the fluid overload. However, it seems that this episode has been caused by his meds being a bit out of balance and his kidneys have rebelled! They've taken him off the infusion and are trying him back on tablet form - bumetanide, hoping that he responds!
