This is difficult to tell from that photo, and also in sexual health clinic they would ask more questions about how long its there for, does it come and go, any other skin history etc. Skin swabs also. There is a wide differential, could be psoriasis, eczema, or even an infective cause like impetigo or a strep infection. I would attend a sexual health unit for assessment.

Hi MarkyMark,

Thanks for the photo! You may have to give us more information to help with narrowing the likely cause/s. All I can see is a scaly rash affecting the base of the penis and scrotum.

1. Do you suffer from eczema or psoriasis?

If you do, then it could simply be an example of genital eczema or psoriasis and the best and easiest treatment to self-administer is with emollients. You can buy emollients such as Diprobase, E45 or Aveeno online (e.g. Amazon UK) or from a pharmacist.

2. As Galen70 points out, infections (esp. fungal) can also cause the skin to flake and while emollients can help, you could try self-medicating with Canesten (clotrimazole) 1% cream to see if this helps. You can get this online or OTC without a prescription. Fungal infections in the groin often coincide with fungal toe and foot infections. Do you suffer from athlete's foot? Check for white flaky skin between your toes.

If you don't improve after trying emollients and/or clotrimazole cream, then try to make an appointment with your local sexual health clinic.

Rgds,

Adhari.
