Hi, I started taking desogestrel and I've had 2 periods in 3 weeks. Current period so far has lasted 8 days. Does this sound normal?

Hey,

I started taking it and a week or so later I started bleeding, it’s now 6 weeks on and I’m still bleeding.

I’ve been told by many people including gp and a sexual health clinic nurse that it’s normal and can take up to 3 months to settle. I’m finding it really difficult to deal with aswell as I also have really bad mood swings on it and dizziness.

I would say stick it out as I think with this pill it will take some time but if it continues and you feel like it’s not worth it maybe you could try another one. I’m gonna wait till the 3 months then change.

Unscheduled bleeding on progestogen only methods of contraception is common. Switch if it is troubling and doesn't resolve
