I was originally diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, but last year I was diagnosed with Autistic spectrum condition instead because the psychologist said it would be better for me when the change happens. I think Aspergers is so similar to autism in a lot of ways that it should be classed as ASC. It is a bit strange to think that it won't be there though.

In light of the present UK government's disability witch-hunt, one can only hope the condition itself won't soon be going the way of the term - ending up not being recognised as existing at all by the powers that be.

That's a dreadful notion but very plausible.

whilst i feel happy for asperger's to appear as a form of autism, i also feel it's good for it to exist as a label in itself for a condition - i don't like it described as 'mild autism' for example bcos it sounds vague to me and doesn't really communicate to non-autistic people what asperger's really means - i think the distinction would be better kept, not blended in with other types of autism completely

Also a lot of research has shown AS and HFAto be distinct from one another and from other forms of autism. Not a very good or helpful situation. There have also been questions raised wrt conflicts of interests within the DSM panel...
