By statement do you mean official diagnosis? I'm in England and understand that the best way is though a gp referral to obtain assessment and diagnosis. That's how I got my diagnosis but I'm 35 and was only diagnosed last year so not sure if its the same for children. I will be in contract with autism Sussex tomorrow so can ask them if they might know for you if you like :-)

As far as I am aware N. Ireland have the best facilities in Britain & Ireland for Diagnosis of Asperger's. By statement I take it you mean full diagnosis in writing so you can pursue treatment & educational facilities. Take your child to your local GP. Insist your child is registered with the child development office. He will be assessed over a period of months and will be referred to a Child Psychologist. A programme for support will be issued and you should give documentation to your son's school Principal so that educational special needs can be addressed. Sufferers of Asperger's are usually very intelligent have above average IQ. Addressing this issue needs the co-operation of his school.

thanks for the replies. my son has his diagnosis since 2010 and has been assessed up to stage 3 and his education board refuses to make a statutory assessment of special educational needs even though he struggles with people and schoolwork.

Have a look at OASSIS website. This linked to Cambian schools but the helpline is both free and good. Also National Autistic Society helpline. Be persistent. Good luck
