Is there much difference between Gastro-resistant prednisolone and just regular prednisolone???

So the long term pred is having a huge impact on my stomach and reflux. Always suffered with GERD last 15years+ but under control but now it’s actually impacting me daily.

My pharmacist recommended trying to switch to gastro-resistant prednisolone. So I’ve got my new tablets and now I’m wondering will there be any change to the way my body absorbs these new tablets?

Will they help with my stomach acidity? Has anyone found them better to take whilst suffering with GERD?

It reads not to take indigestion remedies 2hours before or after..is this with reference to things like Gaviscon?

Pharmacist said it’s still ok to take my morning 20mg omeprazole 30mins before?🤯

Hi, gastro resistant steroids are the same as other steroids just coated to help protect the stomach but still absorb the same way. I always have food before taking steroids for extra protection and drink plenty of water.

Omeparzole are best taken 30 minutes to an hour before food or other meds. It's just liquid such as gaviscon or peptac that should be taken 2 hours before or after taking meds, drink or food.

Hope this helps

HiAs andy121 says there is no difference between GR pred absorption and non GR abs.. the only difference is that they are kinder on your stomach.

I only ever have GR pred and it does help especially over longer or more frequent courses. The docs are always loathe to prescribe them as they are apparently quite a bit more expensive than non coated pred. I have got to the point now that I take my own supplies into hospital if I need to as it’s always a battle to get them!

Fortunately my GP is on board and that’s all she prescribes ( along with omeprazole) which I only take whilst on pred.. also to protect my stomach.

I hope they provide you with a bit of a relief...🤞🤞

I’m really hoping they help calm down this reflux flare..I’m taking famadotine with omeprazole for the GERD but confident it’s the side effects of the prednisolone that’s been building for a while now.

Keeping my fingers crossed🤞

Thanks for the info!

I’ve had coated & non coated and haven’t noticed any difference both make me feel really sick/ play havoc with my tummy. What I prefer with the non coated is I can take lanzosapole at a similar time. Whereas with coated you have to wait a while
