Non allergic rhinitis

Hello - I was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice please? I have asthma and non allergic rhinitis - both well controlled mainly but this last week I have been wheezy and I feel like its the nasal drip causing the issue. I went the drs last week and he said slight wheeze but nothing really, oxygen fine so told me to ride it out but I feel like its there and it restricts me. I take a steroid nose spray but at the min but waking up every morning with a running nose....I have doubled the dose for the last few days.

I use a nasal salt twice daily at the min and have been taking an oral Hayfever tablet (although dont have any allergies).

Any ideas? Maybe there another nose spray anyone could recommend?

I'm wondering if the recent weather has been the culprit. Asthma UK posted this a few days ago healthunlocked.com/asthmauk...

If you don't usually suffer from allergies, it could be that you're affected this season because of exceptionally high pollen levels which are made worse by the weather. An antihistamine nasal spray may be worth trying - better than oral antihistamines apparently for non allergic rhinitis. Your pharmacist will help you choose.

Avoid the sudafed/Otrivine type meds as they can end up making things worse after just a few days.

You've done the right thing in increasing your steroid nasal spray. This usually takes a few days to have an effect.

Good luck.

Dear Rebekah123

I am 72. I have had hay fever for sixty years (summer and winter) and serious asthma for three years.

If I start uncontrolled sneezing at home I switch on my Hepa air purifier and ionizer. It takes thirty minutes to work it's magic. When I first bought the machine twenty years ago I was not sure if it did any good the effects are not instant. But now I have used it for such a long time I know that If I switch it on in thirty minutes the room will be clear of pollen and I stop sneezing.
