So guys... Whos tried Flixotide? Does it work? What other meds have you been on while on it?

It does for me. Prior to being put on it I was on beclometasone (becotide as it was then) which never fully controlled my asthma.

My asthma is moderate and (now) meets all the criteria for well controlled asthma - save one: even if I take ventolin beforehand I will struggle with anything other than relatively short bursts of aerobic exercise. That has been a feature of my asthma for as long as I can remember (and I've had it for fifty years). I have ventolin as a back up in case things begin to slip but nothing else.

One other point: I like accuhalers. I don't mind that the medication comes in a dry powder form and I really like the fact that accuhalers have a counter so that it is easy to keep a check on how much medication you have left (the lack of this with evohalers is, to my mind, a serious design flaw which should have been sorted out years ago). I like the fact that all I have to do is breath in (admitted with more force than is required for an evohaler) and the dose is delivered to my lungs. No spacer required, no potential problems with 'technique'. The downside, however, is that the more forceful in breath can be a problem during a bad attack: I do have a ventolin evohaler and a spacer device for use in that eventuality.

As with all steroid inhalers, it is very important that you gargle and rinse out thoroughly after use (I gargle, clean teeth, and then gargle again after I've used mine).

Good luck with it and I hope it works as well for you as it has done for me:-).

Thank you, I am quite looking forward to trying the new inhaler not only because hopefully it works but to see how I find the accuhaler! I've got a seretide evohaler that has the counter on it but I would really benefit from the salbutamol (Ventolin) having the counter on it too

I really don't understand why they don't make counters standard on all evohalers; if they can do it on one, surely they can do it on others. It seems extraordinary that ventolin evohalers don't have them, that being the medication that should not be needed on a regular basis. How else are you supposed to keep a track on how much is in there?

Exactly!

Ventolin is available in accuhaler form too (which I also have). I can cope with this so long as I use it before things really get out of control. But if things get severe (and these days I do my utmost to ensure they don't - but even so ...) then the evohaler and spacer device is the best option

I agree MaggieHP. There should be a counter on all inhalers. I like the accuhalers for that reason and never had a problem when I was on them. Back on evohalers now because on medication that can react with the flixotide etc and back to writing in my diary when the inhaler should run out and getting a supply together so that I am never anywhere without one - or two!

Im on flixotide and seretide. Quite happy. Still need blue inhaler now and then in the summer (mainly when weather changes) and quite a bit in winter. Cheers. Sue.
