Asthma Consultants East Anglia

Hi

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this on here!

Asthma has been a total nightmare since 2014; now labelled brittle. I've recently moved to East Anglia and need to transfer consultant care to someone; any recommendations for good asthma services. I can travel to London, Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex etc!

Thanks

Hi, I've recently moved to East Anglia too, and find to find a new consultant. I'm On Xolair, though, which made it trickier, as it's only major hospitals that administer it. After asking around I got my previous consultant to write a letter asking Professor Chris Corrigan in Guy's Hospital to take over my care, which he has done. I'm starting Xolair there in a few weeks, which is a huge relief.

I'd start with your old consultant and ask if he/she could recommend someone and write to them for you. Otherwise you might have to start with your new GP and wait months to be referred up the line!

Hi Pucageorgie,

I've been having Xolair under Prof Corrigan at Guy's for almost three years now, they have a good team there. I been with the prof at the asthma clinic there for the best part of 20 years. I'm due again on 14th.

We may bump in to each other.

Hi Tuckbox2, I'm on it three years as well. Was worried they wouldn't let me continue as apparently they're concerned about unknown long term effects of being on it. Have they mentioned anything to you about taking you off it, as a matter of interest?

I'm having my first jabs in Guy's on Jan 21st, so it looks like we're out of sync for now, anyway.

Hi Pucageorgie,

After my 12 month review they said I would be on it for life.

I am just out of hospital after an exacerbation, this is the 1st time I have been hospitalised since I've been on the injections, I will have to wait and hear their comments when I see them on 14th.

That's actually an enormous relief. I had been too scared to even ask either consultant about the three year limit in case they suddenly remembered I was to be taken off it! I still slide downhill quite considerably in the week to ten days before my next jabs are due, then take a few days to improve again. I once had to have my jabs a week late and became really ill. The thought of coming off it was terrifying.

Thanks for the follow, too. I've learned so much about my asthma since joining this forum. I used to think I was well-informed!

I have 4x injections every 4 weeks, about 7 of us had a get together just before xmas, some I meet at my appointments, a couple of new people who have their 2x injections every 2 weeks.

I've never heard of anyone having 4 jabs at a time, that's new to me. It's great that you have developed a social network around this. I hope I run into you some time :)

As the others have said your old/current consultant might be able to help.

I'm not sure if it's the same for consultants but lots of members here recommended NHS choices when I was looking for a GP surgery in a new area!

Good luck
