can salmon cause an asthma attack?

HI all,

I have never had asthma attack caused by food, but I know Im elergic to a few foods which upset my eczema.

But on Friday I had a salmon sandwich and within 15mins of eating it I had a rather large asthma attack.

Has anyone else reacted to Salmon.

Hi pete,

I am alergic to fish and within seconds of eating salmon last , it caused a major anaphalxis reaction, so obviously now stay well clear!

I thought it was only one type but after spending 2 weeks in ICU after that event I got the full tests done and it didnt turn out 100% conclusive but was positive to quite a few so now I just avoid all types all together as its not worth the risk.

Hi Pete,

Is there any other food that you are known to be allergic to?

If so and it was a shop bought sandwich there may have been traces in it.

People can be allergic to fish.

Also fish especially old fish can have a habit of degrading and developing histamine in them which can trigger an allergic reaction.

thanks for your replies,

to my knowlege I am only allergic to fruit - mainly Apples, Oranges and Banannas. But they only seem to effect my skin and not my asthma.

I have never had a reaction to food by my asthma but the sandwich was the only thing I had or did different that day and it was around 15-20mins after eating the sandwich that the asthma attack happened.

But I started to feel wheezy almost as soon as I had finished eating it.

It was a shop brought one - as we have the local sandwich shop visit the office every day with a trolley.

pete i have the same problem i cant eat whole tomatoes without going pure white int eh face and having a asthma attack and feeling like i'm gonna throw up and recently had a sandwich that had oinions in it and it started me off lucky i stopped eating it ocne i started feeling ill so my attack wasnt that bad, i know with my brother he has trouble with certain foods that cause him to have bad asthma attacks like wheat, he once had a pack of crisp and a glass of wine and that it was it he had such a bad asthma attack that while being taken to hospital the paramedics had to stop to resusatate him as he had stopped breathing, but he never learns tho he used to be in and out fo the hospital for having a glass or wine and starting his asthma off,
