Concerned about work

At the moment I am on a sickness absence report at work because I have had a lot of sick leave last year particularly in the last 6 months all due to my asthma.

Work do not want me to take anymore sick leave, my asthma is out of control at the moment something my GP is trying to improve for me but this will take several months, I am so concerned because what if asthma causes me problems in a big way and now knowing that I must not take anymore sick leave, up until now the company I work for have been very understanding but even there patience must be running out by now.

I am really worried because in two months my contract will end although I have already started job hunting, with the way my asthma is at the moment no company will want to employ me.

This is difficult my gut instinct says your health should be put first, I realise there may be other things that have to be taken into account. However as I do not know what your sickness abscence policy it is or what stage you are at on it, it is difficult to help. It might be worth seeking advice from your union or CAB or human resources. Could they retire you on medical grounds?

Be carefull as you do not want to be sacked as this could affect you claiming benefits when you eventually leave the company if you are unable to find a replacement job. Hope you can keep your asthma at bay and try not to worry...

Hiya

I've recently lost my job due to being off sick with my asthma for 9 weeks and unfortunately I had only been there 6 months so didn't have a leg to stand on. I'm now off long term sick with the benefits office sorting out my claim and I've also had to complete an inability to work questionnaire to see how I stand in terms of disability due to my current asthma status along with my other medical conditions. I'm awaiting notification.

All I can say to you is that I felt the same way as you worrying about the future etc but my parents put it into terms I could get my head round, that if I ignored my doctors advise and kept going to work while my asthma was bad I wouldn't be around to see my niece grow up. That did it for me!! I'm now focused on getting my health better before even thinking about anything else. I'm luck that my boyfriend's salary pays the bills, but weve obviously had to pull in our spending to make it work but at least I'm still here.

I hope that your condition gets under control very soon and that your employment situation sorts itself out.

If you want to talk about it please feel free to DM me anytime.

Jilly xx
