How often to measure peak flow

Hi

I've received a letter from RBH this morning asking me to record my peak flows for the next 2 months so they can decide whether to start me on sub cut. Should I just do it morning and evening or at random times during the day? I want to give them the best picture I can but don't want to look like I'm obsessed :)

Thanks

Sarah

I do my peak flow morning before reliver and preventer and evening before reliever and prenveter

and they advice you do it in the same position everytime.

So i always do my sat up straight, others do it stood up.

Like Plumie says...I was always told to take it before my morning inhalers and night to see if I needed my rescue inhaler. I did this for years until they told me to stop. And then when I was first diagnosed I was also told to take it before and after I took albuterol. So I was thinking it also might give them a helpful picture if you took it before needing a rescue inhaler?

I would do it morning and night, thou if you happened to be by a peakflow meter maybe pre and post relieve inhaler/ nebs too?

hey,

definitely morning and evening before preventer medication as the others have said.

my doctor has recently asked me to do middle of the day readings(when i am feeling good he he good joke doc) to see how much the differences is and whether part of the low pf readings is due to morning/evening dip. So maybe try to do pf in the middle of day or record what time you take the morning evening readings.

anyway best wishes,

I was told to do it before my inhalers in a morning and again in the evening, taking three readings and recording the best. I always do it stood up, usually in the bathroom as thats where I take my brown inhaler (it sits beside my toothbrush to remind me to take it before I brush my teeth and then rinse my mouth properly - I'm not mental). If I am unwell, infection or general exacerbation, I generally take it before and after my nebs so that I can see if my nebs are working effectively.

I also record my peak flows on the t+ asthma site, which allows you to enter as many readings as you like in a day.

morning and evening.

so they can see if you've deteriorated or got better, if you're getting worse in evenings then record it before inhalers so you can show how bad you were, then after to see the affect it's made ;)
