I take Azithromycin Mon.Wed.Fri. as a prophylactic. After 8 weeks the diarrhoea side effect is getting me down. Is there an answer to this?

I can't tolerate Azithromycin either Tela - wish I could. Sometimes they will use other abs as a prophylactic. I would think you have given it a good try after being on it for 8 weeks. Hope you find an alternative which will give you as much benefit.

Hi Tela, you need proper nutrition to support your immune system & enable you to fight off infections so 8 weeks is more than long enough to put up with that. Most people are fine on azith with absolutely no problems, but like cofdrop you obviously just can't tolerate it. It's a shame cos it works well, but ask your dr if there's anything else you can try

Pete takes azithromycin every other day like you and has no such side effects. Speak to your GP and see if he/she can come up with an alternative for you or treatment for the diarrhoea. Hope you find a solution and do let us know. xxxx

My husband had this when he first started taking it, now he set the alarm clock for 5 in the morning and takes it on a really empty stomach. Then has his breakfast about 10 am He never has any problems now.

I can't tolerate Azith either and use Doxycycline as a prophylactic instead.

I take Azithromycin and I am glad to say I am one of the lucky ones, it suits me and I feel really well. I don't get any side effects now but I did for the first 2 months. Pls give it a go you will feel so much better. Take it on an empty stomach as per the instructions and your body will adjust to the meds. Good luck Maximonkey
