feel a bit embarrassed/shy/awkward about joining normal clubs and "dumbing" down.

Has anyone experienced the same and found some kind of working solution.

All Hi

Many thanks to quick and open responses. My illness is actually something called Relapsing Polychronditus - but its easier to say COPD.

I've been through a bad couple of weeks - worst in a few years and was feeling a bit low - happens to us all - but needed to get myself out of a dark corner.

Your responses gave me the kick start I needed as well as some really useful info - I think ill be back on a regular basis

Thanks again to all

Hi Hickem, I'm also quite new to the site so welcome. I'm not one for joining clubs as such but I want to try and help myself to keep as well as possible. A friend of mine goes to an exercise class and I have arranged to go with her next week and as I live in a small community I might even find other people there that I know. I'd feel awkward going on my own but am happy to go with my friend. Do you have anyone who can go with you so you wont be on your own? Not sure what you mean by dumbing down??

Hello and welcome Hickem. Have you been sent on a pulmonary rehabilitation course? If not, that is a good place to start. It explains what exercise is best, how often, how hard to push, etc. There is the added bonus that many (but not all) of the courses then offer free or reduced cost gym membership. Good luck.

I agree with auntymary above.

Alternatively, warwickshire have a referral scheme from a healthcare professional to the gym at subsidised rates. Your area may have similar?

The local council run sports centre also has a class for 'respiratory' patients. Everybodies in the same boat.

Also, walking for health, if you can manage? Groups meet regularly.

I am a firm believer in exercise and know my breatlessness is better because of it.

Whatever you do, keep moving and enjoy it.

I use the local gym as a member and exercise really helps. A doctors referral is a great idea.
