Hi Mommalou, this happened to me a few years ago and I became dangerously underweight. (I have emphysema too). I started off with nourishment drinks prescribed by the doctor, unfortunately I didn't find them very nice but persevered. I'd have porridge - Oatsosimple - double portions and other cereals, I found Weetabix good as it's so easy to eat with plenty milk. It's important you're getting the protein, carbs, vitamins, minerals and fat at this stage, so milk and cereal is very useful. You can also have milk shakes made with bananas and other fruit (in the blender) which are easy to get down I concentrated on what was easy to eat and what I fancied to begin with and once my appetite improved a bit then gradually started on Tesco light choices ready meals, some nicer than others, and tinned fruit in juice and low fat custard for a sweet or yoghurts or rice pudding, It took about a year, but I eventually got my appetite back, put about 2 stone back on and have managed to stay around my optimum weight ever since. My motto is everything in moderation but a little bit of what you fancy does you good! I must stress his is only what worked for me, others may have different ideas for you I found allrecipes.co.uk very useful for my slow cooker and they do have a healthy meals section too. But I found when I was finding it hard to eat, I just didn't want to cook so it was easier to buy ready made, but you have to watch the salt content in them which is why I went for the healthy options. Once you have your appetite back it will be easier to cook your own healthy meals. Hope this is helpful and that you get useful hints and tips from others too. Best wishes, Libby

I find it best to graze throughout the day rather than being faced with a full meal. A little often is a good start. I have this problem after long courses of steroids & it is the only way I can eat for quite a while. Hope you feel better soon.

It could be some medication that you are taking, having no appetite could be a side effect. Spiriva often affected my dad, he had Emphysema and IPF. Having an alcoholic drink an hour before eating can often help with appetite as well as having spicy or high flavoured foods. Not necessarily healthy but if you got no appetite and are losing weight then you need to get the calories in.
