There should be a leaflet in with the inhalers detailing side effects. Or you can Google (but be careful which sites you read). I have never heard of either causing weight loss though. COPD patients do tend to lose quite a lot of weight at some stage.

With any side effects or weight loss it is advised to speak to your GP. Who knows what the cause of either is. If the GP does not know they should be able to refer to specialist help.

Looking for answers on the Internet in general can find some scary stories about a variety of drugs we use.

For more immediate peace of mind you could call the BLF helpline while you are waiting to get an appointment at your surgery.

I know of a few people who always loose weight when on steroids, I agree with Gordon speak to the doctor.

I take both Symbicort and Spiriva and have done so for nine years or so, together with Bricanyl and a 5ml maintenance dose of oral steroids daily. I have had no problems at all but, your husband should have a chat with his GP, I also agree with Gordon, it is not always a good idea to look up drugs on the internet, as he sayes there are some scary stories there. Best of luck

What exactley is Bricanyl?& i wonder why my husbands dr has never mentioned oral steroids? He would probably feel more like doing things?

Hi Perky77,

Bricanyl is what I would call a "reliever" inhaler. I always found Ventalin difficult to take and was recommended this by my doctor. Oral steriods are normally given when you have a very bad chest infection and are not given lightly. Please don't be frightend to talk to your doctor about any worries you or your husband may have, or even perhapes your practice Asthma nurse. Good luck

i had problems with advair, my heart use to race, it felt like it was just building up, i was getting sicker, i looked on the internet and a lot of people were having the same problems from it. look it up and see how many people have the same, then call your doctor.
