I also use Consultant prescribed Seretide 500 and I have had a couple of "uncalled for snipes" from my surgery about how much I am costing. Frankly I was too shocked at the comments to reply but looking on the Chemist Direct website yesterday, they cost £80.98 for one month's supply.

Hi jemma - thanks for reply I had been wondering - because when went for my resparatory check with nurse - she said it had become surgery policy to cut the 500 seretide down to 250(but didn't say why and I didn't why ask at the time stupid of me!) - but if I had any problems I was to say immediately - she seemed a bit miffed but again didnt say why. I tried going down to 1 x 250 twice aday but had tight chest and they put me back up to 1x 500 twice a day with no problems. thank again BB

I have been led to believe that it is the steroids in Seretide that stops us from having any more than a 500 dose.

I use , Seretide 500 , twice in the morning first thing and twice at bedtime. I have a good doctor and surgery and this is the first time I have heard of this. At time when my chest has been bad they have told me to increase the dose. Good luck to you

There would appear to be some conflicting information given above. All medication should be taken as prescribed within the clinical guidelines. Seritide 500 is normally taken ONE puff TWICE a day.

I have`nt heard that one and have`nt had any problems from GPS. I am on seritide 500 twice a day and it was prescribed by consultant. All my med have been prescribed by the respiritory dovtors.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the price I quoted was for a private prescription for Seretide 500. I should think the NHS is supplied more cheaply.

I have not had any problems getting the consultants reccommended twice a day Seretide 500 accuhaler from my GP. However I do have arthritis in both hands so find this inhaler easier to use than the other style. No questions raised about cost and it does work. Of course officially cost isn't supposed to be a factor in drug choice, whats best for the patients illness is.But increasingly in these modern times cost is being taken into account more frequently even in the NHS.
