I have hired an Eclipse 3 and found it to be good. I would like to hear from anyone who bought one and gain from their experience and advice.

I have both the Eclipse 3 & Philips Evergo, each has it's advantage & disadvantages. Of the bot, I rate the Eclipse as it has the advantage of a higher flow when using pulse setting. It also offers a continuous flow of 3 LPM. Owing to low oxygen saturation, i am confined to a wheelchair when out & about, the Eclipse has a bag which you have to purchase separately, it fits on to the back of the wheelchair for ease of use. It also comes with a trolley as does the RespIronics Evergo. However, in this respect the Evergo is easier to use as the Eclipse is quite heavy. I have spare batteries for both & the Eclipse has a desk charger enabling me to use machine with spare battery. With the Evergo batteries need charging in the machine.

Thanks for asking this question. I have been trawling the net trying to get patients info on this machine. I have been considering getting one but am worried that it will be too heavy for me. At the moment I use a little rollator walker and place my oxygen cylinder in it. I just wonder if I could cope without the walker and don't want to be confined to my wheelchair

Thank you so much Ivjwaite for you excellent reply to my question. I am currenly on continuous flow at 2 l/m prescribed for 15 hours a day, mostly at night. Being on continuous flow limits the number of models that I can consider buying. I don't want to pry into your personal business but I would appreciate any info you are comfortable sharing re where I can buy, price etc. I did read that it is possible to get exemption from VAT - do you know if that is corrrect? Thank yoiu again Ivjwaite

I purchased my Eclipse from O2,wwwhealthoxygen.com . Can't remember what I paid but yes, you are able to claim a VAT refund as long as your are able to provide a doctors letter/prescription stating you need oxygen. My machine was delievered by courier the day after I placed an order. Can't fault the Company & have been very pleased with their after sales service. I suffer fro IPF & currently use 4/5 LPM of oxygen, I have an oxygen concentrator at home. I live in Dubai & find the Eclipse invaluable for day to day actives. Plus I need it when travelling to UK for use on board aircraft . Hope this information has been helpful

I am in negotiation with the same company. They are so helpful. Just wish I could see one at home. They promised if I bought it I could return it within 7 days at no cost but I am so indecisive

I also found them really helpful and easy to deal with. I know how you feel about buying something you haven' seen etc. I was like that too but I was fortunate to be able to take one with me on a cruise, and on a flight to Malaga, to go through security etc. I didn't use it on the plane but was able to stow it in the overhead locker. I did use it on the cruise ship and it worked really well on continuous flow of 2 l/m throughout the night. It wasn't too noisy either. So I had the benifit of a weeks trial and that's what prompted me to buy one.

I bought one from the estate of a fellow COPD sufferer which was advertised on Ebay early last year, this to attend our daughters wedding overseas. While it can be risky buying from sites like these most sales are genuine.

The transactions tend to be quite seasonal as for most they are impulse purchases having been hired sometimes at very great cost again abroad.

We had done a cost benefit analysis of using the AGENT of our then supplier, hiring cylinders on Cyprus and on-board the aircraft (was more expensive than the flight cost for us two), against hiring in the UK of a Portable Oxygen Concentrator, or buying new (prohibitive cost) or buying from an auction site.

I contacted the seller of the Sequal Eclipse II, I subsequently bought and in frank and friendly correspondence was able to ascertain the unit's history.

The Eclipse is all and more than I could have wished for, my prescription is for 4lpm I use it pulsed and it copes very well with my need having an extra two one litre increments should I need it in the future, all this information can be gleaned on the makers site.

The UK agents advertise new (and refurbished) units but seldom if ever quoting the cost! than those available as above.

From research I concluded that the market is quite seasonal there being a high demand April/August this has now tailed off; there are four units offered today with a myriad of new imports from China which during my research I was strongly advised to keep away from by sellers who had bought them to be used by their parents etc., prior to buying AirSep/Sequal et al

I have seen a few "dealers" hoovering up units early season adding a hefty mark up and reselling.

Anyway on Ebay the following are on offer as of today; they are all AirSep, there was an Eclipse 2 on offer until yesterday at £650 I think "buy it now" a little low on price perhaps in need of a service or the Zeolite "sieves" replacing.

If you require additional battery power, these can be purchased at £450+VAT in the UK, you can import the same from the States for considerably less; however you will have a battle with HMRC as "batteries" are exempt from exemption under VAT Notice 701/7. If you have a problem PM me.

You can further narrow down the search by distance; to inspect locally if possible, in my searches before and since buying quite a few are offered in Ulster and the Republic.

Breathe Well,

Dave

Dave, thank you so much for all your investigation and sharing. In the end, urged by my family, I decided to purchase an Eclipse 3 directly from O2. One of the factors that affected my decision is that it is sold exempt of VAT. Thanks for all your help and I hope others will benifit from this exchhange of information. Good luck.

You’re more than welcome........... alas still don't have your name, I think you've made a good choice.

VAT Notice 701/7 covers the VAT exemption, subsection 10.3 allows for VAT free importation; the batteries are currently $347.45

amazon.com/New-Sequal-Eclip...

At $1.57 to £1: giving £221.30 (plus shipping!) it's less than half price,

Best wishes and have a lovely holiday...........it's looking dry and sunny so we may get our outfit on the road.

Again Breathe Well

Yes it's great to see bright skies and sunshine. Long may it last.

All the very best to you Dave.

My very best regards,
