I think most healthcare professionals would agree that stem cells probably represent the future in treatment of COPD having discovered that they can work with diseased lungs in 2011, at least in laboratory mice.

Presumably, if you had a huge pile of cash you might find someone, somewhere to help you, but for the rest of us 'mere mortals' I believe this treatment is some way off yet.

I also like to think that my grandchildren perhaps, if so afflcited, would be able to avail themselves of this wonderful science in many areas of healthy tissue regeneration.

germany has been doing it for last eight years dusseldorf waiting to see what consultant says as i wan to have it done

Stem cells are a very expensive and unproven treatment as yet, they are hope for the future as Baron has already said it is still at the laboratory stage of development.

my daughter is a bio technologist with experience in stem cell research although mostly for neuro endocrine cancer, however she tells me that a great deal of work is being done but we are still a long way from a safe and usable treatment, it is much more complicated than the media makes out , I think baron has the right of it more likely for our grand children. Difficult to program stem cells to repair interstitial tissue only( no point repairing lungs if you then turn them cancerous) even then they would have to take your stem cells and produce them in the lab in sufficient quantity very difficult to do at the moment they cannot turn normal cells onto non differentiated stem cells at present only found in embryos and umbilical tubes you can get stem cells from the bone marrow but in small quantity's and not often undifferentiated a lot of private clinics in the world make bold claims but the science just is not there just people taking money from the desperate and vulnerable people
