me too - get very breathless - though oxygen goes down sto 92 ish on exercise - maybe we need to check if we are CO2 retainers as someone on this site has suggested ?

I think that we are all very different ,some people cant breath and they sats are like your and others have sats at 86/7 and don't seem too bothered by it .. But if your sats are 95 96 then your body is getting an ok amount of oxygen and that's what matters

The amount of working alveoli in the lung will control the gas exchange between lungs and blood this in turn regulates blood oxygen saturation when even hyperventilation will not improve the gas transfer it shows that being short of breath is a different symptom to having low oxygen saturation.

Holding CO2 in the lungs by not fully emptying the lungs as far as possible by the use of "pursed lip breathing" will slow the gas transfer rate possible, though not significantly as going to the most short of breath will demonstrate if you have no gas transfer problems with the alveoli.

Retaining CO2 in the blood is a poor gas transfer problem distinctly different from breathing as it is related to gas exchange not respiratory rate.

Know the muscle condition is a part of how much effort / oxygen the body needs to do the things we ask which is why doing rehab and exercise regular keeps a body doing better than if we do the couch potato and have more sob when it's use it or loose it with muscle condition.
