I still do not understand that when I was in hospital, for my stent, my stats were pulse 76 and 98%. 12 weeks down the line, after giving up smoking, they were and are 98 pulse and about 85%. Surely if I had the start of COPD they would not have read normal in hospital ?
Stats normal before giving up smoking... - Lung Conditions C...
Stats normal before giving up smoking then go way down. Why ?

People with COPD do have normal blood oxygen saturation. Assuming you are talking blood oxygen levels.
People can have severe COPD and still have normal blood oxygen saturation levels and a good pulse.
Have you been diagnosed with COPD yet? Your symptoms of discomfort could be due to your existing heart condition. Its important to communicate a worsening of symptoms to your GP, whatever may be the cause.
Of course smoking will put you more at risk of cardiac and lung problems.
I was diagnosed with COPD last year. I have had no heart problems at all since the stent was put in. I have posted elsewhere on her about my condition.
Hello, I was talking to my sister who is an ICU nurse and she told me that actually the chemicals (nicotine) in cigarettes do raise SATS levels. Also some of the chemicals actually open the airways slightly - this is why when you stop you can feel worse etc. Please ask your Doctor for advise. TAD x
Thanks Tad. That makes sense. At our local Breath Easy group the chaps' wife who helps run it and has COPD a lot worse than me, has gone back to smoking as she says she can breathe a lot easier. Wrong move, but everyone to their own.
