My dad just says what's the point in having one as the X-ray showed nothing but that was 3 weeks ago and he's still in pain .

A lung x ray is enough to show an infection of the lung. Mine showed the extent of the Pneumonia I had contracted. And later a nodel that had to be checked to make sure it was only caused by infection and was not cancerous. Infections can take a little while to clear. If his infection is being stubborn ask for a sputum test so the infection can be determined. Antibiotics can then target the specific infection he has. My view is nothing would be gained from a CT scan.

Ok thankyou .Do you think there would be any need for another xray ? the last one was 3 weeks ago but his infection is worse now than when he had the last one done .

a cat scan i very useful as it can show up which part of the lung is affected and usually what the problem is is, it can show up, pluerisy, pneumonias, or any changes in the lung, good luck Sam x

Good luck to your Dad on Friday. You do not say how often or for how long your Dad has been getting infections. There are some conditions which show up on CT scans i.e. bronchiectasis. So yes it might be a useful tool, depending on whether or not your respiratory consultant deems it necessary.X
