I have been taking Zopiclone for this past 18 months due to severe insomnia.

Not great but gives me roughly 2-3 hours most nights which is badly needed.

Done all the usual herbal sleep teas … save your money!

Same here. I try all herbal remedies / supplements and the only things that consistently work are co codamol and zoplicone xx

I have a lengthy sleep routine, which includes hot milky drink after 10 pm, screens off about ll pm, go to bed, write my diary, do a bit of a sudoku with my husband. Then it's on with the eye mask, in with the ear-phones, and go to sleep listening to an audiobook CD. Works almost every time now.

I am a BIG Sanctuary brand fan. I use all of their toiletries.

They do a spray mist that you spray on to pillow. For me it doesn’t aggravate my breathing and it certainly helps when I’m sleeping badly.

The other thing I use is a weighted blanket. I don’t find it too constricting and again definitely helps me sleep.

I have never slept for long periods so have given up worrying about it. I listen to audio books or radio 4 extra when I wake up in the night. Only problem- I rarely hear a play all the way through.

Me too Swizzy - I'm annoyed when I lose my place because I've fallen asleep listening though lol

The listening log on Audible is great for reminding me whereabouts I was prior to sleeping. It’s on right hand menu.

Thanks I will try that

The biggest thing I find is to try not to fret if I wake up. I don't personally find it helps to get up and have tea or read or something, though some do. I tend to lie in bed, try to relax, and tell myself that at least I am resting even if not sleeping. I have a sleep mat monitor on my bed and although it can seem as if I am awake for ages the monitor shows it is usually far less than I think. I do not clock watch because that makes me feel worse. I am the same as Swizzy with the audio books. I use one to get to sleep but always drift off way before the timer is set to stop it. I don't choose anything exciting, mind you. Although the psychology books by Gabor Mate are actually every interesting, they are read by his son who has such a lovely, calming voice, that I am on my third listen through and still have not taken in half of any of it!

My husband likes an audio book, my daughter likes heavy blankets (not weighted ones yet- she's thinking about that.) I just think of alphabetical lists of things- books, films etc.

I am a very poor sleeper - I take Zopiclone 7.5 - I cut in haf and take half as soon as I go to bed, I watch You Tube/ Netflix or prime for a while, then I make horlicks and take the other half of tablet. Worked quite a lot , I used to be able to sleep of alcohol, can't anymore. So when we have a drink, awake most of the night.

Another terrible sleeper here! I read my kindle until I fall asleep, but sometimes I’m awake again within minutes so it’s back to the kindle. Finally, after maybe 4hrs of reading, total exhaustion takes over (if I’m lucky), then I feel terrible next day. Other nights I can be awake ALL night, or asleep within 10mins, but that’s rare. My only solution so far is occasional zopiclone. My gp has investigated other options but nothing else is compatible with my other drugs

One thing that sometimes works is listening to the “Gregorian Chants”.

Not everyone’s cup of tea but for some reason I feel chilled and find myself heavy eyed after about half hour mark.

Monastic music.

The GP used to prescribe Zopiclone, but after several years of taking it, a GP I hadn't seen before said they could kill me! (There was that case this year of nurses being prosecuted for giving highly vulnerable patients Zopiclone in a care home in order to get a quite night on duty, a woman died) Anyway, she prescribed 10mg Amitriptyline antidepressants, which just helps to relax me a bit. I also take Prebiotic Inulin at bedtime. Dr Michael Mosely ran a small experiment and found it very helpful, although it is primarily intended for gut health. It's available mail order from a company called Golden Greens, can't say for certain it works, but as a serial insomniac I'll try anything! Good luck x

I occasionally a take a very low dose of amitriptyline if my tinnitus is playing up (prescribed by GP)

but prior to that took the occasional Nytol …NOT the herbal one (rubbish) .. but the one that contains antihistamine…that worked

PaperQueen profile image
PaperQueen in reply toPhill1

OK. I didn't find Nytol did anything for me, but whatever works for you. Hope you manage to get some sleep, it doesn't help being sleep deprived when you need to keep your strength up to deal with all the other crap. x

i think i have solved my sleeping problems in the last year with meditation..i found a site on you tube called great meditations who produce small 5 or 10 minute tapes to listen to. i use one in particular which lasts 10.49 minutes. using the tape i tense and then relax all parts of my body as instructed. i usually fall asleep just after or even sometimes half way through!!if i have to get up during the night to go to the toilet i find my body is quite relaxed and i generally return to sleep..if i dont then i lie on my back and tense and relax my body and do 4 7 8 breathing exercise . breathe in 4 seconds hold for 7 and breathe out for 8 . normally this works. occasionally it might not so my last resort is to read a book . i never look at the clock and i dont get out of bed to make a drink etc. i try to stay calm and relaxed and tell myself i am physically resting even though not sleeping

tried and very happy....

Will magnesium glycinate help you sleep?

Magnesium glycinate is one form of magnesium easily absorbed by the body and recommended by sleep experts to promote calm, relaxation, and improved sleep.27 Mar 2024

I tried everything before , at the end the solution was a 10 pounds mineral...

At least in my case but considering the almost absence of serious side effects it is worth a try....😉

When I was in hospital and finding it difficult to sleep I'd put my ear phones in and listen to the shipping forecast!!! Failing that listen to a book but have a timer on it ... otherwise you have to go back and listen to loads of chapters again!!!

I read a book. Not an audb book. Then settled down and count the alphabet backwards. Very rarely get past m.Also if I wake up at night I get a cup of tea and read. I am very lucky to be able to do this without medication and I certainly can emphasize with those who cannot

I usually find if I put something ion TV that I really want to see I’ll be asleep in a few minutes, but then they recommend not exposing yourself to tv or tablets or phones for a couple of hours before bedtime.

I’ve never slept well Oliver. If I get 4-5 hours I’ve done well. A lot of people manage with very little sleep. Worrying about it makes it worse. I’ve tried everything but no joy. I’ve accepted this and just carry on regardless. Season’s greetings to you. Diane 🎄😊
