Hi all. I'm a new girl to all this, hoping some can advise, I have stage four emphysema, arthritis, osteoporosis very badly, .and now have a cataract in both eyes but only right eye needs doing . The nurse showed me the way I have to lay down but was a green rubber brace looking contraption I have to put my neck on. Honestly I felt a load of pressure in my head and can only describe it as liying upside down. Anyone any advice as I'm worried 😟

Hi New Girl! I have all the same ailments, great isn't it?! I have had both my cataracts done and was given a couple of pillows each time. The surgeon played around with the incline of the bed until we found a level at which I was happy. I don't recognise in any way, shape or form this green contraption and wonder who this nurse is to make you so apprehensive (downright scared).

I'm sure others will be along and say the same thing. Honestly, please don't worry, it is painless and sooooo worthwhile! Life in colour!

All the best xx

Hi Leo. I don't want to put anyone off having it done. I think I was maybe anxious. I said I felt faint, all went black and body shook. Whatever it was wasn't nice. I do have a lot of problems though which maybe contributed

I am so sorry to hear that, I haven’t heard of anyone else having a problem. I do hope you don’t think I misled you xx

It’s a while now since I had both my eyes done, but I remember thinking that it seemed wrong to have such a life changing improvement to my sight for so little discomfort. It’s important to keep your head still which I didn’t find a problem. Perhaps a contraption has been invented for those who think they can’t? Sounds like a nurse has exceeded her brief, in any case it would be a small price to pay. Do come back and tell us how delighted you are with the result when done.

Only a week since cataract removed so can't say on outcome but for me personally is was awful. I've had a lot of ops etc but this was the worst I've been through. Had to get me into a wheelchair, whole body shook and felt sick and faint, we're all different I supose

Thank's for your post. Norse 12 - I also have emphysema, arthritis, heart and Cancer proble,s - I also have Wet Macular in my poor eye and cataract in both - I have had them quite a while but the day is looming when they will have to be done. If they have a green contraption like you have - Good luck to the surgeon keeping me pinning in such a way, I have lost all curve in my spine and it now leans to the left, it interacts with Cervican spondulitus/degeneration and you mentioned caused "pressure in your head" Well I could stand pillows but locked into such a Vincent Price contraption you describle.

Never heard of green contraption, I was on a bed and the backrest lowered slowly until I was comfortable. Painless and over in 20mins. xx.Sheila

I didn't want to frighten you about the green neck thing, think it supposed to keep my neck still. I believe by the sound of all the posts that there are other options , depends on surgeon. I have osteoporosis, my spine has five fractures and had a vertobreplasty two years ago for same so my spine is slightly bent so I really think I need to ask.

they must be used to people asking to be in a more comfortable position because at our sort of ages - we all have other health problems. The green thing maybe holding your neck in an awkward position for you to feel that sort of pressure, Maybe they can make it more comfortable for you. Hope it goes well and you have big sight improvements afterwards. all the best Sally.

I didn't have a problem when I had my cataract done, they lowered the back rest slowly until I was comfortable. I don't know about any green contraption. Mine was pleasant and all over in under 20mins and painless. I also have severe COPD xx Sheila

I have to have both mine done soon and I have OA and osteoporosis as well as spondylosis so I struggle even on CT MRI scans laying, have to have pillows so my neck definitely needs support. I hope I don’t have this green thing or I definitely will remain blurred vision.. I hope they find something better for you so you can see the world more clearly.

Take care

Has anyone had their cataracts done at spamedica, just wondering how they were laying down

I've had both eyes done, and has a total anesthetic as I was scared of coughing when they were operating. One of the best things I've ever had done. My distance vision is now great. Still need specs for reading.

I used to take NSaids like Ibabrufen (never know how the spell it), and other more powerful, for arthritis, but I found out they can cause mouth ulcers if you were prone to them, which I am. I'm expecting to get a morphine patch to combat the pain in my back, as other things to help, I wasn't up to.

Had cataract done. I don't want to give negative feedback but has anyone else had a bad experience immediately after surgery

Hi Nor12,

I’m sorry I can’t give you any feedback on that as I myself is still to undergo the same procedure in 2 months. I’m sorry that you had a negative experience after the surgery. I wish you all the best with your recovery. Could I ask what negative experience you have had if you don’t mind? It might help me with my decision whether I should have a second thought about it. Thank you.

I don't want to put you off. I was a bit anxious when I went in which probably didn't help. I felt faint after and shook vigorously. They didn't know why. I have to have my other eye done but will really have to think about it. For me not a good experience
