Yesterday I had dental surgery to extract a molar because it was fractured ( could that be due to many many events with prednison???), and now I am on antibiotics amoxicilin. Dentist says 6 days or so. In general my peak flow always increases with antibiotics for other reasons (dental, urinary), but is 6 days long enough for my bronchy lungs?
Any thoughts?
Cheers

I presume that the antibiotics are to prevent a mouth infection because of the dental work. We all know that amoxicillin for bronch is about as usefull as a packet of smarties and any antibiotic has to be given for 14 days for bronch.
If Amoxacillin is the right AB for the bug you may have colonizing your lungs, then maybe. However, I've usually had the high strength AB's for 10 or 14 days, very often with the accompanying side effects.
Hi Cookimonsterr. Amoxicilin is a broad spectrum antibiotic which is why it is so widely prescribed. It may not be what you usually get, or for as long as you usually get but you may find some improvent.
The 6 day antibiotic, most likely, is to insure that the dental procedure doesn't result in an infection. But not long enough to help with your lungs.
My specialist put me on a low dosage long term antibiotic, Azithromycin. I have been on it for years and it has helped keeping lung infection away. I was even able to ween off of prednisone. I had been on prednisone previously for years.
I asked my dentist for doxycycline when I had my extraction and was being given anti biotics. I said amoxicillin is like taking sweets. I had a cracked broken tooth too. X
