Basically yes, that’s my prescribed dose too although my skin is fine in summer when I lower to one puff 2 x daily..

My inhaler is (the spray type, not powder) and a M.A.R.T one . Check out the leaflet it should explain , basically we can take more or less as the need arises. For IE I take my 2 puffs twice daily through winter months and then 1 puff is sufficient until December when I'll up it to 2 at night then 1 in the morning is usually sufficient unless really cold or I'm fighting off bugs. As I had to take my higher dose through May this year my skin had thinned however, I know it will be back to normal by winter. Right now I'm kicking myself for not wearing thick sleeves when pruning the roses! Steristrips to stick the skin snags down - my own silly fault.

If you take the powder one, disregard the above as I know nothing about it and best look up info onlineabout it's use, speak to a good pharmacist or your respiratory team.

Most steroid inhalers do that to the skin on arms and hands. It's a nuisance but we need to be able to breathe 😊

Yes it seems to be a side effect of using steroid inhalers and steroid tablets. X

My skin is tissue thin and tends to tear at the slightest knock or make an ugly purple bruise. I have scars all over my arms from my dog walking days (sadly over now). Some is age but steroids do have this effect.

Yes I have the same tissue thin skin on my arms & hands mostly. Even the smallest scratch causes it to rip. As Peege said gardening & my daughters dog greeting me until he settles seem to be the biggest culprits. I’m on Fostair 2 puffs in the morning & 2 in evening. Been on inhalers for years for Asthma.

Same here. I bruise very easily and have hameatomas if I accidentally catch my leg or arm. Steroids.

I was on a purple inhaler for years, which I think was called Seritide, which also contained steroid. Steroids can thin the skin. I've got scars on my arms and one leg to prove it. Three corner tear wounds. I used to take nasal sprays, but stopped them when I found they contained steroids, and also found that diabetes can be induced by steroids. As I am pre-diabetic, I put this to my doctors, and they said not much steroid in them, but since stopping the nasal sprays, my diabetic number has reduced from 48 to 44. However, I had been taking other measures as well, such as trying to reduce my sugar and starch intake.

Hi,

Can I also ask, if you have lost weight on Fostair, aside from the skin problems, which seem very common?

Fostair contains a steroid which causes thinning of the skin . I am on Trimbow which is not that different in this respect. My dose is higher and continuous. My skin is 'papery' and easily torn but it seems to have reached a steady condition. I wear gloves if needed for odd jobs and try to avoid bumping jagged things.

Is Fostair a steroid? Yes, Fostair contains beclomethasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are an anti-inflammatory medicine and used to treat inflammatory conditions, like asthma.

Yep, side effects of all steroids - bruising and paper thin skin! Once my husband was giving me a hand up from the ground (intentional lunch stop) and he pulled on my wrist and pulled the skin off!
