Im sorry but i cant answer your question as im not a Dr but i can say its not the end of the world if it is empacemia i was diagnosed at 35 with sever empacemia and im still going. My first piece of advice is dont smoke stay away from smoky atmosphears including bonfires and bbq. Eat as healthy as you can and exercise as much as you can. Oh and avoid people ...Sorry i ment people with colds ect.

The more you can follow this advise the slower the progresion of emphacemia will be. Good luck and welcome to the sight 😷

Hi, and welcome to the site. corriena has given some great advice.

Hyperinflated lungs means it's hard to breathe out completely because there is something stopping it. Treatment options include bronchodilator inhalers to relax the airways in the lungs, and exercises to improve lung fitness. Ask your doctor about these the next time you see them to discuss the options. Also ask why you've developed this at your age.

Wishing you all the best.

The only reason my COPD was noticed was when I took a cable car up to the top of Mount Teide in 2014 and became extremely breathless. When I returned to the base station, I felt fine again.

As the cable car had a warning not to take it if you had a heart problem, I went to my GP after I got home from Tenerife. Extensive tests showed no heart problems, except a slightly enlarged upper right chamber of the heart, suggesting a lung problem. I was diagnosed with moderate COPD in February 2015. I have since improved my diagnosis to within normal range for my age, sex and height. That doesn't mean I'm cured, just that it doesn't affect me much in day to day life.

So please don't think that this is a death sentence. Try looking on it as I did, a wake up call to live a healthier lifestyle. Then you have every chance of living to a ripe old age.

As a former group member warned me in my early days, don't commit suicide by sofa.

Thear is no reason why you should die from hyper inflated lungs. If you are worrying please call the helpline its good to talk

What is the helpline? I'm going doctors soon for a breathing test so hopefully I will know more was the doctor on phone who said emphysema but the nurse who called me for the test says she couldn't see that on xray just hyperinflated lungs she said could be asthma so I'm confused now x

Hello and welcome to this friendly, funny and informative forum. I think we all understand how scary an initial lung problem diagnosis is so you're among friends! 🙂 I don't know who coined the phrase 'suicide by sofa' but it's a good one to remember! There is so much advice here, lots from people who have had lung issues for years. You might want to write down questions you want answered on your next appointment e.g. why are your lungs hyper inflated? What, if any, is the treatment? Etc.etc.

hi, do you smoke? Do you live in a highly polluted area? Have you worked on building sites or done loads of DIY without a mask? If none of those then its possible you have Alpha 1 Deficiency which a simple blood test would prove. If you do smoke the best thing you can do for you and your family is to quit - there is a Quit forum in HealthUnlocked. Always wear a mask for dirty/very dusty jobs.

The helpline is very good, open 9-5 Mon to Fri uk time. Good luck, P
