found this while going down a rabbit hole of clicking relevant posts.

seems really unfair that if you are proactive the authorities that be decide you need NO HELP and can just get on with it. 😡

I do agree. I remember his post and how appalled I was. I had never heard of someone being discharged by a hospice. The consequence was that he died alone. Just horrendous.

Thanks for reposting it.

Remembering the tragic circumstances of poor Skis demise, I remain horrified that he was left to go it alone. If ever there was a case for hospice intervention, this was surely it! I remember this post and how outraged, upset and helpless I felt at the time. The passage of time has not diminished this one bit.

Skis is greatly missed.

I remember this post and was shocked how someone can be seen not to need support, when Skis so obviously needed support. It obviously doesn’t pay to show you can cope. Everybody needs that safety blanket in the back ground just in case.

I too remember this post from Skis and how outraged i was on his behalf. The one thing that stands out is his sense of humour which helped all of us at some point. I really do miss him and still cant believe at times he has gone x

I recall this post too Moogle. I am saddened that many people defined as able to cope, are left at home to go it alone as you say. One of my family ended up like that because they said they would prefer to be at home and that often takes away access to services according to social care rules. Think for many of us the thought of dying alone is worse than the illness. I would like to say the idea of hospices is also about keeping the patient well as possible at home with their illness symptoms under control . My late husband had a nurse coming in but of course he was not alone but he still died in hospital. There will always be sad stories , that sicken us but there are also good ones we hear of.

PS moogle this is another side I went to the local hospice for control of symptoms, a gentleman at the meeting that day passed away a couple of days later and he drove himself to the appointment. There is no hard and fast rules that can cover all. xx

i know that with just 1 or 2 interventions, the patient can really be built up again

I remember this post by skis and I remember the outrage it provoked in us lung buddies. Skis died alone without help but no matter how I’ll he was he always would post cheery humorous posts xx

Oh my days moogle, just read through this very sad story. I wish I’d known this man, he sounds an amazing person, no wonder you all miss him so. No one should die alone and neglected! 47kg! There was a special bbc report on the state of gp services last night, focusing on Blackpool actually but it’s the same everywhere and this poor man was a victim. Makes me angry too😡

It is an extremely saddening reflection on health and social care services. If you don’t engage with their recommendations, you’ll be discharged for being “non compliant” (hate this term!) and if you manage too well, clearly you don’t require services either (untrue!).

The bottom line is that hospice services - and others - are chronically underfunded and under resourced, so they cannot keep all people under their care. It’s totally unacceptable in a progressive healthcare system to have people being left alone like this. We need to be looking at the people at the top and asking why. Who are we voting for? What are we voting for? And why?

Oh I love being "non-compliant" practice every day, I have informed GP and hospital after my last admission, that I will happily go from my home in my well polished wooden box, although if I need it, Mac Nurses doing occasional visits will be very welcome. However the bribe of a Mars bar might improve my behaviour for a short while.

Welxome to the “non compliant” club SORRELHIPPO the rules are that we have no rules ‘cause we wouldn’t stick to them anyway! 😉
