Atypical Micobacterial Infection
There are a number of different mycobacteria. I remember one associated with swimming baths and one associated with frogs with the wonderful name of xenopi. Good luck with the oximeter clinic . Let us know what it is.
It is probably NTM. Non Tubercular Mycobacter. Many people with bronchiectasis or copd find themselves with it. I have been lucky enough to avoud it myself so far but it sounds as though your doc is on the case to find the right antibiotic.
The oximetry clinics test the amount of oxygen in your blood and gas exchange. They have various tests.
Hi Annieosb. - Welcome to to the NTM ‘family’. I have two of the blighters on the go but am keeping relatively well. Consultant says as long I stay well he is reluctant to treat me for them. So, hope yours behaves itself.
Hi Annie, I hope you will be feeling much better soon and the meds work well to help you.
Not heard any clinic being call oximetry clinic before, routine checks by respiratory nurse using an oximeter which is placed on the finger to read current blood oxygen levels and pulse.
Could be just checking that.
Full gas exchange and arterial blood gas measures is a more comprehensive check. These are usually done at the hospital. If just the oximetry check that can be done at the GP surgery.
Best wishes BK
