He’s over 100. We’ve had him over 40 years and he was an old man when we got him. You can’t import them nowadays, if you want one they have to be bred in this country or bought privately. My mum bought him for my daughter whose birthday it is today. X

Glad he’s cheered you up, he certainly made me feel good when we checked him and saw he’d survived his hibernation. I always get a bit nervous in case he doesn’t come through it. X

Wow that is amazing. What changes he’ll have seen in his lifetime. Although maybe his horizons aren’t that wide. It’s nice he’s woken from his hibernation. Thank you for sharing this 🐢 What a great story. 😊

My junior school had one. The building was a square figure of 8, and he lived in one of the central gardens.

He’s very easy to look after, we don’t buy him special food, he loves dandelions, which we pick from the local park if we don’t have any in our wild garden plot. He likes cucumber, tomatoes, fruit and most green veg. He just ambles around the garden of his own free will. A section is fenced off so he can’t stray but he has a few times in the past and we’ve been frantic looking for him. He’s seen my children and grandchildren grow up and now the great grand ones are interacting with him. It’s quite possible that he will outlive me and then he’ll be passed to another one of the family. He’s certainly well loved by everyone. X
