Having recently been prescribed prednisilone 7.5mg daily for R/Arthritis can I still have the flu jab ? (Bronchiectasis for 20+ years)

Hi, Just read your post. I am very surprised as it sounds as if you havent yet had a a flu jab although you have had bronchiectasis for 20 years. Or maybe you have had it previously but concerned about the medication you are taking could cause a reaction.

My surgery book me in each September to have an annual jab which I have had since diagnosed with bronchiectasis. I also take a number of tablets, mainly for cholesterol and high blood pressure.

I think you should check with your doctor if you are concerned. However, I believe a flu jab is recommended to anyone suffering with a lung or heart complaint.

Thanks for your comments - yes I have regularly had the flu and pneumonia jab in the past but have only just been diagnosed with R/Arthritis and prescribed prednisilone, and am concerned whether it is still OK to have the annual flu jab. I will check this with my GP.

I have had always had the flu jab while on steroids,i think its the pnuemonia jab you cant have when on steroids.

I am on 7.5mg too and I have the flu jab every year. I have also had the pneumonia jab. Being on steroids means the vaccine isn’t as effective but still helps.

There are no associated risks with steroids and the flu jab as far as I am aware
