A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China by scientists. It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say. The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak. While it is not an immediate problem, they say, it has "all the hallmarks" of being highly adapted to infect humans and needs close monitoring. As it's new, people could have little or no immunity to the virus.
The scientists write in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that measures to control the virus in pigs, and the close monitoring of swine industry workers, should be swiftly implemented
There was one video where the parrot told Alexa to turn off the lights, then switch them back on . I don’t know if it knew how to ask Alexa to order treats.
Would this be the "Swine Flu" of many Years ago. I worked for Evans Medical as a Young Mum, making inoculations for "Swine Flu" going back to late 70's. Just Wondered. Take care to you Both. C. XXX
If the truth be known this just joins a long list of viruses that have the potential to become pandemic. In normal times this would have not made the news. In all honesty I questioning the integrity of the media at the present time. They appear to be part of the problem when it comes to accurate information.
The reason I posted it was because it was on the home page of the BBC new site, and why I posted a "don't panic" note along with it for those that only saw the headline. Even the BBC is not immune to a certain degree of sensationalism.
My comment did not in anyway reflect on your post. I was pleased that your normal good sense allowed you to put up the no need to panic statement. My comment was a thought on why this common event is now "news" in the media. Having a quick look around on various announcements from 2018 there was numerous new viruses found with potential to infect humans which never made the news. I question why the media feel this one should.
I wonder if we'll ever regard these things in quite the same light again ? I remember when I first heard mention of this virus back in January and thought yeah, yeah that'll be like the AIDS, Ebola, mad cow disease, bird flu, swine flu, MERS, SARS...all of which were going to kill us. I suspect alot of people were the same. How things have changed.
I do hope they can contain this possible new virus. I was hospitalised with Swine Flu (H1N1) in 2009 and it was no walk in the park.
I agree though it is a non news story, inflamed probably by the covid pandemic. We, in the main, expect a new epidemic and/pandemic every so many years, although it is usually a flu virus.
