It seem that a lot of people have trouble in getting to sleep and staying asleep.
I wonder if one of your medications might be causing the difficulty in sleeping; that is how my bad sleep started, as for several months I used to wake at 3am regularly each night, but managed to get back to sleep after a while. Then I couldn't get to sleep at all. I didn't realise about the medication until someone on HealthUnlocked mentioned it.
A tip that might help. I was recommended by a friend to take Nytol-one-a-night from pharmacy. They include antihistamine which makes you sleepy. They worked (take about half an hour to get you to sleep) but you mustn't take them every night for three weeks or so as I did as they then stop working. There are also some 'teas' that do help you get off to sleep, but with me they stopped working after a few days. There must be other tips that people have! Some people like a hot drink of milk just before trying to sleep (perhaps with ovaltine or similar). Some people have a chamomile drink.

Yes, one of my GPs told me many years ago that nearly all of my medications could be blamed for difficulty sleeping. That said, I hadn't slept well for years before being diagnosed with COPD, it's just got worse since. I do take a herbal remedy from time to time but I think the effect, if any, is more psychological than anything. I also have chamomile tea. You certainly sparked a topic with your post yesterday and it was nice to know that I am far from alone in being awake in the early hours.
