Going down memory lane

Hi everybody, hope your all keeping well during this difficult time.

I spoke to the Health Secretary yesterday, told him I was shielding and asked him how long he recommended I should exercise for each day. He replied 30 minutes. He said if anybody asks what your doing tell them your on “Hancock’s Half Hour”.

I'm fine thanks Sassy but I 'm looking forward to the middle of June when I can stop shielding, it's so uncomfortable trying to sleep with it in the bed.

😂 Pete finishes shielding then too. Maybe we should have a virtual “made it through shielding” party. Xxx😘👍

Sound like a great idea.

Sorry sassy & loncinlad but letters are just going out extending the shielding period until August. I can’t see any reason why it should stop there either, it won’t be completely safe for us until there’s a vaccine, or an effective treatment.

I’m sure science will get there, even the lugubrious Prof Whitty says so, but I’m starting to go out now. I reckon the open air is pretty safe. We all have to decide for ourselves don’t we, using the common sense which some people find so elusive 😊

Thank you for the update Hanne, I will wait in trepidation for my letter. Stay safe and well on your venturing.

Oh well Hanne, it’s common sense time then. I’m sure I’ve got some somewhere. I knew we were kidding ourselves but that party seemed like a fun idea.

Stay safe and alert. Xxx😃😘👍🌈

The trouble with common sense, is,

That it’s not very common🤭🤭🤭

Oh dear, I can’t bear the thought of further weeks of shielding. I was thinking of my husband driving me in the car to just wave to the grandchildren. I’ve been confined to the house and garden all this time. What do others think about a car drive, isn’t it just an extension of the house?

I have heard that if you go out in the car and drive less than 10 kilometres you will not have recharged the battery enough to replace the energy used to start it. Any thoughts about this

I’ve thought about this. My conclusion is, if you break down or you have even a minor bump or collision, then you will no doubt be put in a tricky position because you will inevitably have to deal with strangers face-to-face. My partner and I both dealt with trauma patients and unfortunately accidents do happen. A & E admissions will also be on the increase due to the extra activity etc etc.

Whilst the brain takes onboard that it makes perfect common sense to extend the shielding for us asthma suffers who are extremely vulnerable to this dreadful virus thingy, the rebel in us shouts

“HANG ON, we didn’t get to live to our seventies without taking the odd risk or two along the way”

We take the car out for a half our spin once a week to recharge both the car’s & our own battery, just 10 to 15 miles but that makes all the difference.
