Groceries

Well so much for registering for the additional help. Every single grocer is fully book for deliveries (some up until the end of June). How are we meant to be shielded if we are unable to access provisions? I live in a street where everyone is elderly, friends are vulnerable and family are too far away. I’m hoping someone has some good news on how we can overcome this obstacle

Most areas now have voluntary groups set up who will shop for those at high risk. Access those on FB. x

I’ll give that a go. Thank you hypercat54

But the Government said they had this set up for the Shielded Group. We shouldn’t have to be forced onto FB to find volunteers.

I’m not on FB because I’ve never wanted to be but what about all the very elderly who have no mobiles and no internet? They are now extremely isolated.

Absolutely agree. People will fall through the net for sure.

It’s a very sad and scary situation for a lot of people. I’ve no idea how they will cope

I put a message out there and some fb friends have contacted me. Even though they are putting themselves at risk. My immense gratitude to them

Following for same reason. Also can’t get anyone to deliver prescriptions (locally or online). Not sure how we’re supposed to stay isolated in this case? I noted that Sainsbury’s have a number you can call to say you are vulnerable and get added to their priority list for groceries - the only trouble is their phone lines go to answerphone saying they are too busy to deal with enquiries! 😂😔

I tried that as well. I’ll keep trying it over the next few days to see if there is any luck. I’ll keep people updated to any changes that will help us all.

You can register on the Sainsbury’s website that you are self isolating. It’s in the delivery address tab and you put your information in the delivery instructions box.

yes and they don't take a blind bit of notice then you log in or try to phone and it never answers and you can't even register as disabled and don't start me of about this exclusive club you can only joint if you have mild copd,it's all absolute crap grrrrrr

Unfortunately that’s not been an option on the many times I have tried

I registered with Sainsbury’s and got an email at 2pm to say they had slots, and they did. Just for this week at the moment but that is progress of a sort. Hopefully the big supermarkets will get organised, it must be a logistical nightmare but the money must be rolling in for them.

I got e.mail sunday to log in monday and some slots would hope fully be available.

Then another to say slots available now.

They were all for one day ...today but were there all day for me yesterday.

Delivery due tonight to doorstep in bags as had to let them know im isolating.

Think it helped I had left big order in my basket forever hopeful a slot would come up.

They are using details of date birth but said recognised I was vulnerable .

Thinking hoping its once a week .

This is with sainburys who ive used for years.

I’ve had an email to try again on Monday. Poor staff must be at their wits end

Do your order now leave it in your basket so your ready for an e.mail saying slots are open ready to book .

It helps if you are a regular long term customer I think whether it be sains Tesco or who ever.

I did manage to get a delivery last week from iceland but was booked a week in advance and not much of it came to be honest but got some bits.

Not necessarilyKittykat. I am a regular online with Waitrose as I get good vouchers with them and have been so disappointed with their lack of help and general indifference. Won’t be going back when this all ends.

Thats a real shame cof when your a regular.

I never applied for it just started getting a few e.mails then one to say recognised as vulnerable either through date of birth reg with them or having ever used vulnerable helpline which didnt know I had done.... but once weed killer had leaked all over lot of shopping so I refused delivery and requested new delivery so maybe it went through to vulnerable then as I am coeliac too with loads allergies anyway ....sainsburys are really trying to help but must be a nightmare to sort.

Hope you get sorted x💕

That’s who I shop with. I emailed them but they are so busy that I’ve had no reply. Unless we have people who will help us, then the ones we give money to week in and week out won’t help us

OMG I share your disappointment. I have phoned and emailed. The woman I was talking to spoke to the manager (lower case on purpose). His solution I could contact the council. Well that’s a well thought through, don’t give a s*** solution. Well that’s one regular customer they have lost when this war is over. Probably 2 I would guess.

Good luck.

They are definitely looking at 2. We will take you money every week and leave you high and dry when it counts.

With Sainsbury’s I had done an order a couple of weeks ago and saved it. So when the slots became available I could move quickly. Good luck everyone.

Think they check when people leave stuff in baskets as they dont like to lose sales ...ive had it with non food items offering me discounts etc with clothes shops or free delivery....least think it gets you noticed.

Make sure if you get offered this that you click on delivery instructions and put that you are vulnerable and isolating.

It will be delivered to doorstep in bags with a knock on the door .

Hope everyone gets offered this good luck

If the Government is serious about the Shielded and vulnerable group to play their part and isolate for 3 months, then they have to get arrangements made with grocery provision and supermarkets, as promised.

For sure they have how can we get food otherwise .It needs to happen for all vulnerable people who cant go out even for basics.

Ive really struggled this last few weeks to get even basics people had even cleared out all the gluten free stuff in sains .couldnt find any basics either when friends went.

Just got my delivery and everything my friend had looked for tried to get in sains was delivered and all the basics so proves they have the stock or vulnerable will get priority was like magic and any substitutes were all acceptable nothing missing from order.Think they must have a secret stock not on shelves or I was just lucky this time.

The stress of getting food has been tremendous as is for all of us .

Something needs to be done and quick 💕x

You would think that names and dobs and email addresses would flag up the ones that can’t actually leave the house. There has to be a better way

I’m sorry about your struggle. My girlfriend has 4 teenage girls at home and school has said they don’t expect kids back til Sept. at earliest. AND we here are having a toilet paper crisis and like I said 4 teen girls. I can’t imagine having to deal with that madness. Hopefully someone can go do a quick pick up and drop off for you. They’ve set up those services here in the US like Uber sort of. But we’ve been government ordered to stay home. So we can be cited and fined for being somewhere not deemed”essential”

At 4am I managed to book a delivery with ASDA 😃 very relieved. I’m on isolation now for at least the next 12 weeks. I don’t mind that at all since I’ve been doing it for years during viral season. Hopefully things will settle down for everyone in a few weeks when they have got to grips with the logistical side of this problem. I certainly don’t envy your girlfriend at all....yikes!
