WHY WHEN IM LAYING DOWN WATCHING TV AND ALMOST ASLEEP I NOTICE MY O2 SATS WITH MY PULSE OX DROP CONSISTANTLY TO 89% AND 95% WHILE LEAVING MY PULSE OX ON THE WHOLE TIME.. THEN I TAKE A DEEP BREATHE AND IT RISES BACK UP TO 95% AND 98% THEN DROPS AGAIN... ITS VERY CONCERNING TO ME WHY N THIS HAPPENS.. I CAN GET IT BACK UP USUALLY WHEN I TAKE A DEP BREATHE OR COUGH BUT IT GOES BACK DOWN WHEN IM JUST SLOWLY BREATHING AND FALLING BACK TO SLEEP.... DOES THIS MEAN MY COPD IS BAD
LOW 02 SATS AGAIN: WHY WHEN IM... - Lung Conditions C...
LOW 02 SATS AGAIN
I don't know mate! First time I was in hospital , a young volunteer nurse kept coming to my room, l asked her why, being still naive, she told me what she knew, my sats were doing the same thing as yours.
2yrs later......I am still here, but none the wiser.lol
Please read again all the replies you have had when you have asked this question before. You seem to be causing yourself unnecessary anxiety by constantly checking your oxygen levels in spite of previous advice.
95% is not low, 89% is not low enough to worry, certainly not when relaxing and falling asleep. Until you obtain more knowledge I would stop taking your own readings as this can cause you more stress. A one off reading is not helpful anyway, you need to test your sats over a period of time for it to help you. I believe that you need to learn about "the complete breath and purse lip breathing, this may help but above all just relax and enjoy your life. Good luck. Sorry, I should have added that a pulse oximeter is not designed to be left on your finger, just take the reading and take it off.
Dennis I'm not getting funny with you but don't understand why you keep asking the same questions over and over. We can only repeat the advice we have already given you so I suggest you go back and re-read your other posts and replies.
It sounds to me more like health anxiety and there are several sites on here for this so it might help you to have a look at them.
Sounds to me as if you are breathing in a very shallow way using only the upper part of your lungs most of the time, so only using a third of your lung capacity, which naturally make your O2 levels drop. When you breathe in deeply, you use the whole of your lung capacity and your O2 levels go back up. The answer is, breathe more deeply all the time and then you shouldn't have a problem. Practise doing it consciously until it comes naturally to you. Using pursed lips breathing will help too.
Hi - Your 02 sats go down when you are asleep , or can do. I have a pulse oximeter that records and I can save and print out if I wish, 95% is normal, so is 94 and 93, 92 with COPD - 89 that bobs back up - I can't explain that but below 88% for any length of time needs attention. I am no doctor but a reading of 89% does not mean bad cOPD if it rises with breathing in... Mine has dropped to the 70s then rose back just as quick. I have this recorded but bad COPD would mean bad 02 most of the time I would imagine.....If you feel well and your breathing is fine. ring you GP and tell receptionist why you want an appointment.. If it's serious they will ring you which I doubt,, talk it over with GP and put your mind at rest....Some oximeters are not that accurate so get it calibrated with your GP....having said this if you feel ill, get help.....All the best..
I dont know why that happens Dennis....
I do know that we who are lung damaged get our gasses out of kilter with no rhyme or reason.
I usually find a big or hesitant sigh puts the back where they should be again....
When recovered l dont think about it but if fighting something notice it often.
I'm not a regular oxygen user, usually register 91 - 95%
Have 32% lung capacity and have asthma and Bronchiectasis and small airways disease.....
Try not to worry but mention it to a specialist when you next can see one.
My gp is great but l lead my treatment backed up with respiratory team from Brompton.
Gp's cant be expert in everything....
Hope you are soon suited with breathing stable.... good luck,
