Wisdom from a bygone age.

Growing up in the fifties & sixties I was introduced at an early age to the wisdom of the 3 wise monkeys embodying proverbial principle, hear no evil, see no evil & speak no evil.

At the same time, I was also advised about the three topics of conversation it was wise to avoid when in the company of friends, colleagues or acquaintances. They were, money, politics & religion. This wisdom is as valid now as it was all those many years ago.

I’d like to also wish you all a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.

I find both religion and politics interesting, would love to be able to discuss with more people, on neither topic do I get angry if someone is of a different belief, but have to be so careful it is so irritating.

I am sure there are many others who think similarly to you SORRELHIPPO however there is another factor that needs to be taken into account namely Time & Place.

Is the HealthUnloked forum at Christmas time either?

Curious to know what should be allowed to be discussed at 'christmas time' and in total agreement with SH. :)

Like your photo btw it does look very tranquil there.

p.s sorry photo was on another post.

I agree with the time and place, so do not start these kinds of discussions, just wish I could. Can learn from others and the only way minds could grow/be altered is with unbiased discussion. Used to have debating society at school, where you had to take the position, you did not believe in, useful teaching aid.

I doubt whether there is such a thing as unbiasedness, or such a word come to that. 😉

Very difficult to work out what of the things you learnt as a child are fact, or just so ingrained, along with the fact, in a lot of cases, you believe anything your parents tell you. It is why I cannot get angry with someone who has a polar opposite view of the world, unless they want to kill people because of their views. The worry for me is a society where hatred gets taken from one generation to the next, and is still going centuries after the first offence. If we want a settled world, there has to be a way to resolve these problems.

I concur with your comments however I would also like to add that my parents instilled in me to always be truthful, something that cannot be said of many given the current climate.
