Good News Emily - - continue enjoying the Church
That’s wonderful to hear Emily! 💐
Sorry Emily to burst your euphoria but this is or ought to be a secular forum. I won't argue against your spiritual happiness of the moment, which has psychosocial value but some of us do not turn to church or religion for consolation when we are feeling down. we could turn to poetry such as Blake's London verses where he says "the mind forged manacles" of religion. Sorry to be such a killjoy.
Cateran ,why did you have to possibly ruin Emily's day by such a silly comment, her bubble was truly inflated by her church experience and good for her and i say that as a non believer in any religion or in fact any divine being but i would never dream of commenting on someone else's belief or the comfort it gives them and don't remember reading anything within the terms and conditions of this forum that forbids us declaring our faith if we have one.
Actually, although I have not recently consulted the terms and conditions of the BLF Forum I imagine that giving offence by uttering strident religious declarations or utterances, can be disturbing. I certainly did not make any such statement running down or attacking Emily's faith and referred to spiritual content as a form of solace. Would you take offence if Emily's post was headed Mosque, or Synagogue, instead of Church? Why is it that there are no Muslim or Jewish or Hindu posts identified here in this forum? Is it because the minority hesitate to assert their own different faiths or spirituality? Perhaps the moderators of this forum would care to give an opinion just now?
Why would i want to take offence to any religious group ,i have my own security in my own faith or lack of it.Emily of course did not utter any strident religious declaration unless you would call attending a place of religion a declaration?
We are a multicultural, multi faith society here in the Uk and although we often don't demonstrate that principal i for one am very pleased to live in such a society.
I imagine that like politics the Blf would advise restraint and respect in other people's beliefs?
I want to respond to this as I really did not think me attending a place of worship would trigger a negative response. My friends of different faith who know of my struggles are not offended. I am shocked by this response truly am. I am also grateful of the supportive response. I apologise if you find me see hope in all of this wrong. But fir the first time since 30th May I yesterday had hope and a sense of peace.
Hi
We saw nothing wrong with Emily's comment and therefore no action or input from admin was necessary.
Thanks.
Thank you so much for that because I meant no offences
Thank you
I am shocked you would write as you have - what a nasty put down which says more about you than Emily. Ive never thought of the site as secular but yes I guess it is. But surely that just means no proselytising. Emily was expressing pleasure at feeling happier and more confident. I remember what a dreadful time she had coming to terms with her diagnosis and am thrilled to see her post.
We all draw strength from different things . I am an atheist but am only too pleased that Emily is helped by attending her church and presumably seeing friendly people too.
A little compassion would go a long way, rather than your self-righteous and patronising psychological references like "psychosocial value".
Thank you
And please you have burst nothing
Dear Terry,
We go back a long way from BRUS and I have the utmost respect for you and admire the work you have done and still do for BE. I have always known you as a gentleman but I feel disappointed in your post. Emily was simply stating she felt much better following her day at church. She could just as well have said she felt much better after a day at the seaside. There really isn’t an argument to be had here, just joy that one of our family is feeling better.
Love cx
It's ok Terry has apologised and it's over now thank you.
Emily61 - I am glad that you had an uplifting experience at church. You have had such a bad time lately. It’s good to have some positive news and I hope that you continue to find comfort and solace in this. 🙂
Thank you I will
A rather anodyne comment RedSox. Ah, the self-censorship retort. If a member "feels good"about something does that cancel out all rational thought ? Doesn't it rather depend on what the person "feels good" about?
If a member feels good then that is enough, no need to delve & declare whether or not, according to your ethos, whether that person is thinking rationally or not!
I find your response incredibly offensive & unsupportive of a person terrified by her illness but learning to deal with the anxieties surrounding her illness.
Please think twice in future!
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you I will not lose hope not not not ever
Well done Emily61. Hope and determination is key to dealing with illness.
Hi Emily. I can't tell you how pleased I am that you are in a better place. That's what we all love to hear, I for one took that part of your post and felt happy that you felt uplifted. It doesn't matter where you were at the time……so just keep doing what brings you serenity. xx 😃😊
Thank you so much, hope you are going from strength to strength. xx
Great to hear you are feeling much more positive Emily and that you had a lovely day.
