Mouthwash use could inhibit benefits of exercise, new research shows.

Exercise is known to reduce blood pressure – but the activity of bacteria in our mouths may determine whether we experience this benefit, according to new research.

An international team of scientists has shown that the blood pressure-lowering effect of exercise is significantly reduced when people rinse their mouths with antibacterial mouthwash, rather than water – showing the importance of oral bacteria in cardiovascular health.

I've been meaning to reply to this all day but kept forgetting to look at my Corsodyl mouthwash. I didn't think it was antibacterial but it says it helps to reduce plaque and plaque bacteria. The main reason I started using it is because my teeth are falling out and it claims to improve gum health which I thought might help. It's interesting how much of a correlation there is between dental hygiene and cardiovascular health. There have been a number of articles about the connection between dental hygiene and lung, heart or digestive health. More than just the obvious things like having good teeth enables you to eat well.

I use Corsodyl Daily when I feel a cold is trying to get me. It seems to make an effective gargle.

Who would have thought it. I have a sore mouth at the moment. I will stick to gargling salty water. Thanks

Interesting. But I use an antiseptic rinse immediately after my Trelogy inhaler. I'm terrified of developing thrush. I did this with my previous Breo. In fact I'm just a little obsessed ---A year ago at my dentist I stated "The roof of my mouth is sore I knew I would get thrush ---how bad is it?". My dentist claimed it looked perfectly healthy--and then I remembered and shared "Oh that's right I burned it on a hot cup of coffee". Never mind.
