Under the Pinned Posts to the right of the page there is a thread titled Informative Videos, and the first video is on the subject of clearing your chest. To save you searching for it, here's the link - healthunlocked.com/blf/post....

I hope you find it helpful.

The NHS consultant got a physiotherapist from BOC Linde group to see my mum and describe the huffing - I can't attach the diagram the gave me but basically it is:

1) Breathing control x 3 (20 -30 secs) (normal in out breathing)

2) 3-4 deep breaths x3

3) Breathing control x3

(1 and 2 can be repeated or straight to no. 4)

4) Huffing (like breathing out on a mirror ) - or I find one blowin an imaginary balloon is good) followed by cough if needed

There is also an "acapella" piece of equipment that the physio is getting my mum and will show me how to use - apparently it can be used instead of / or alongside the above exercise.

Perhaps you can get your GP/consultant can refer you too

You don't say your condition so make sure this is the right technique for that condition.

Ps to the advice from Boc (NHS approved) phsio

On the Huffing ( part of the cycle) - I get my mum to breath in bid andhold 5 secs, and then huff, as I've found this helps a lot.

(The phsio said something like the cycle of breathing is a bit like building up pressure behind the mucus from behind which helps it come out more easily)

Please ask your doctor about pulmonary rehab (PR). If you do get to PR you will be taught about clearing the mucus and lots more.

Following the links given will help.

Also keeping your lungs moist helps. Drink plenty of water, some fruit juice (pineapple is good) decaff tea and coffee. Keeping the fluid levels up helps to keep the mucus loose so easier to cough out.

Keep well xxx
