Is Spirometry the gold standard for copd.

Or would early stage emphysema only show up on a ct scan and not an X-ray.

HiX-rays rule out other causes.

CT Scans show size and location.

Spirometer or Full lung Function Test, are the most reliable in diagnosing lung conditions such as emphysema, if carried out correctly with the right interpretation.

As regards the Spirometer. The right interpretation is the problem on the rare occasions that they get the carrying out procedure right, which in my experience is also rare. Certainly at a GP's surgery were some poor nurse is usually lumbered with the job.

Not sure i agree with you there.

I have severe non obstructive emphysema ,and I always get a pass on spirometry 110% expected but dlco is 38% and ct scan shows severe damage, so you see in my case and i suspect many others spirometry is not indicative of my condition
