Session No 5 , Pulmonary Rehab.

Howdy folks, Chris here again,

I am back at home after surviving yet another session at the PR course. It's getting slightly less fearful actually setting off to each session, but only Slightly.

Today I started off on the excercises bike, last time I did 4 minutes 33 seconds. Spread over 3 rides. This time I did 2 mins + 1 min+ 1 min+ 1:10 min. So that's 37 seconds up on last Friday.

My leg lift weights are up from 1/2 to 1 kg, 3 sets of 10, both sets of arm excercises up from 1 1/2 kg to 2 kg, the heel lifts are 2x10 against the wall bars, but I am walking 1/2 the length of the room to get there first. The biggest gain has come in THE WALK. I walked 1/2 the length of the room to a chair, turned, and rather than sitting to catch my breath, I stood resting on my two sticks and got control of my breathing before setting off back to my own chair. Instead of panicking and sitting down I actually caught the fear and got control. It feels ruddy marvellous.

Hope this is of some encouragement to someone out there.

By for now.

Chris X

Hello, the course lasts for 7 weeks. Two sessions per week ,We'd and Fri.

2 hours per session. The first hour is excercises and second for lectures lessons on what COPD is and how to best keep its effects to a manageable minimum.

Hopefully when I get the call to go to pulmonary rehab said it would be after Xmas unless someone drops out. I have no confidence and desperately want to be able to have some kind of normal breathing. Do you go by yourself .

Hello Lizzric,

I hope you get your course quickly, My Wife drops me off and generally goes shopping in Rhyl, there are ten people on the course at any one time and we all start on a staggered basis, on person finishes the course , and the next session a new person starts.

The course is designed to build up your general strength and fitness, it re- conditions your body but not cure your poorly lungs. You do still feel feel breathless, but won't be as scared of the breathlessness if you know what I mean.

When you get your course , enjoy.

Cheers

Well done. You certainly will inspire someone with that story. That’s really positive results.

I was always terrified when I got s.o.b. when out walking but doing the course taught me not to be afraid and for me that was a major obstacle

overcome.

Good luck and keep it up
